Roe v Wade was decided in 1972. We were told that it would eliminate children coming into situations where they were unwanted and protect women from dangerous, back-alley abortions. We were told it would ensure that children were treated better, as they would be in situations where they were wanted and apprecitated.
Complete, vivid sex education has been a part of public education for several decades. We were told that it would teach children and teens to protect themselves. We were told that it would reduce teen pregnancy. We were told it would teach them to respect themselves.
We were lied to.
Aside from the fact that abortion is the ultimate form of child abuse, incidents of child abuse have risen. People no longer value the life of children. How many children have had to hear from a parent, "I should have aborted you?" How many parents have secretly told themselves that, even without voicing it to their children? If they have at least thought it, what does that say about the value of the lives of these children?
Sex education, rather than teach young people to respect themselves, it has opened a Pandora's box of teens exploring sex and trying to disassociate emotions from actions. While we want teens to "just say no" to drugs, heaven forbid we teach them that about sex! Teens are now experimenting with sex, with girls trying to act like boys regarding emotions, feelings and promiscuity, ignoring the fact that this kind of activity leads to depression and suicide. We are just not designed to behave like that.
So, what has got me on my tirade today? I just read a story of a Houston teen, a 14-year-old girl, who gave birth in her Middle School bathroom and decided to flush the child down the toilet. How could someone do that and not feel immediate guilt? How can a society produce someone who would act in such a manner? Can such a society survive itself for long?
Rather than all we were promised, we now have a generation of young people who have been taught that sex is nothing more than an animal instinct that they can't resist, in fact that they should embrace, and that abortion is just one more form of birth control. I'm sure that was what led to this young girl's actions. It was the unashamed animal sex that led to the pregnancy, and the only thing she did wrong was that she didn't get an abortion. If she had gone to a Planned Parenthood clinic instead of school that morning, she would have been heralded as a hero for exercising her right to choose. I'm sure in here mind, there was no difference.
Every day on the news, we hear stories of parents killing their children to get even with a spouse, perverts stealing the innocence of children for their own gratification and children being beaten or otherwise abused. There is so much violence against our children. How have we come to so remove value from them?
I have two children, one natural and one adopted. They are both precious to me. While I can be stern in my discipline, to protect and teach them, I cannot imagine my life without them. I value them. Unfortunately, I don't think we are teaching our young people to value themselves, or life.
