Hypocrisy Of Wars

For more than five years, the rallying cry from the left has been that the Iraq war is an illegal, unjustified and wrong war.  They have carped that no WMDs were found, that Iraq didn't attack us or have anything to do with those who did, and that we had no right to be there.  They have made a war of fighting against this war.  Hypocrisy!

In December 1995, then President Bill Clinton shipped our soldiers to Bosnia for battle.  Now, when did Bosnia attack us?  Oh, yeah, I remember, it was...no, that's not it.  In fact, Bosnia did not attack us, nor did they even threaten us.  No, Clinton sent troops to Bosnia for the express purpose of covering up his own mistakes and scandals.  In fact, as a friend of mine from the region puts it, he sent troops to an area of the world where he had no business sending them.  He sent them to fight for a people who had no right to land they claimed and disrupted a government selected by its people.  His only excuse was that the government of Bosnia was involved in ethnic cleansing and gross atrocities and needed to be stopped.

In Congress in recent months, there have been loud calls for the US to send troops to Sudan to stop the genocide going on in the Darfur region.  The government of Sudan has never attacked us, nor have they been shown to support those who attack us.  They are involved in driving people from their homes and killing them in large numbers.  It is a battle over who will control the country, a civil war, of sorts.

In both of these instances, Democrats and Leftists have justified the sending in of troops, even war if necessary.  They have claimed that the massive loss of life and gross human rights violations demand that a country of our stature and strength do something.  Interesting.

As I recall, Saddam Hussein and his regime were dedicated to any cause that brought harm to the US.  They were also guilty of gross human rights violations and genocide.  They had mass executions of those who were opposed to their rule as well as being responsible for gassing hundreds of thousands of Kurds in northern Iraq.  They were acting almost identical to those in Bosnia and Sudan, except they were actually funding terrorist organizations such as Hamas.

So, why again is it that the Left opposes the war in Iraq?  Surely if they are interested in protecting human rights they would support the removal of a dictator so cruel as Saddam.  Surely if they are interested in stopping genocide, Saddam would have been somewhere on their radar.

The simple truth is that they oppose the war in Iraq, not because it is an illegal and wrong war, but because it is George Bush's war.  They see their own President as more of an enemy than a tyrant dictator such as Saddam Hussein.  They are so blinded by hatred of a fellow American that they have no sight to see what is truly right.

There were no hearings regarding the sending of troops to Bosnia, even a short two weeks before Christmas.  There will be no opposition from the right to trying to stop the genocide in Sudan.  Why?  Because the Right is able to see the world subjectively, through the eyes of right and wrong.  Genocide is wrong.  Rape rooms are wrong.  If they are wrong in Bosnia and Sudan, they are wrong in Iraq.  The Left, though, sees through their own eyes no such firm definitions of right and wrong.  They only see what's right for them, what's wrong to them.  This is hypocricy, but then again, they don't see it that way.

Hypocrites Of Disenfranchisement

Ever since the 2000 election, we have heard tale after tale, complaint after complaint, stating that the Republican party is systematically disenfranchising voters.  First it was voters in Florida, then in Ohio, among other places.  Every time the Democrats don't win an election their prognosticators tell them they will win, they scream about disenfranchisement of the voters.  I've often wondered how they can tell what it looks like to have voters disenfranchised.

According to my friend, Blue Collar Muse, over at the Tennessee ConserVOLiance, it's because they have been doing it.

While not one claim they have against Republicans has ever been found to be true, they are systematically working across the nation to keep voters from letting their voice be heard.  Whether it's the abortion issue in Tennessee or the gay marriage issue in Massachusetts or homeschooling in California, they work to have voters signatures kept off petitions or take so long verifying them, that the time expires.  Yet, at the same time, in Memphis, they have votes from dead people to elect a member of a known corrupt family.  They use judges to overrule votes of the people and legislatures elected by people.

It's time for the American people to wake up and realize that the Democrats have become elitists and no longer have the good of our nation at heart.  They are only interested in their power and their special causes.  We must rid ourselves of them and restore freedom and democracy in our nation.

Dems Addicted To Your Money

Yesterday, the Democrats in Congress had an opportunity to show us how committed they are to helping the economy and putting money back in our pockets.  Instead, all they managed to show was just how money hungry and insensitive they are.  Three specific items caught my attention.

First, the Senate had a chance to make the Bush tax cuts permanent.  These included the Inheritance Tax, also known as the Death Tax.  This tax punishes your heirs after you are dead for your hard work and thrift.  There were other tax cuts that were not renewed as well.

The Democrats claimed that they wanted these cuts to expire and be gone because they are for the wealthy.  They prefer cutting taxes on the poor.  While I agree that we should not tax the poor, we shouldn't tax anyone for that matter, raising taxes on the wealthy doesn't make much sense either.  How many jobs can a poor factory worker produce?  How many jobs can a poor salesman produce?  In fact, it is the wealthy business owner who creates jobs.  He can only do this, though, if he has the money and incentive.  Only a socialist mindset sees redistribution of wealth as the right answer.  And, for the record, redistribution of wealth does not mean more rich or middle class people, it means everyone is poor.

Second, was a measure put up by Sen. McCain.  It would have put a temporary stop to all earmarks.  Earmarks are special projects that Congressmen add to spending bills that generally benefit only their constituents.  Frankly, they have no place in a federal budget.  They cost taxpayers billions every year and range from Woodstock Museums to bridges to nowhere to parks to special research.  If these projects had any merit for public funding, it should come from the communities that they benefit.

Despite the screams of recession from the left and cries about the deficit, the Democrats in Washington were unwilling to cut these pet projects from federal budgets this year.  This proves only that the Left has no desire to cut spending, bring the deficit under control or make wise decisions regarding our money.  They are addicted to our money and the power it allows them to wield.

Finally, Republican Senator Wayne Allard of Colorado had an interesting amendment to add to a bill yesterday.  The amendment would completely fund every campaign promise that Sen. Obama has put forward in the current Presidential race.  It would fund his universal health care, his increases in military spending and his tax cuts on seniors among other things.  The cost?  Try $1.4 trillion dollars!  Now, where do you think Sen. Obama plans to get the money to cover this increase in federal spending?

While this amendment is sure to fail, a couple of things will be interesting.  First, will it garner much national attention to the flippant promises of the Senator from Illinois?  Second, will Sen. Obama vote for it himself?  I suspect the MSM will cover it over so we never hear about it and I imagine the Senator will treat this like other important pieces of legislation and not be present to vote.

These three items bring a very important point to light.  Democrats do not understand that the tax money is our money.  Their attitude is that it's their money to spend as they please.  When we lose sight of whose money it is, we lose control.  It's time we take back control of our money.
